Set All the Permissions

Your kids probably shouldn’t be messing with the thermostat, but they should be able to turn their bedroom lights off at bedtime. You probably want to allow your in-laws to let themselves in and out, but you don’t want to give them access to your security cameras. Access control is tricky and you don’t want to give someone the wrong permissions. It’s your smart home, after all. Family plan for a smart home

• Mom & Dad: master controls on everything, including permissions for the rest of the family
• Teenager: access to control lights in the bedroom, locks to come and go by the 11pm curfew, and access to speakers on the weekends
• Youngster: access to the lights in the bedroom
• Grandpa: access to the lights, locks, and thermostat
• Baby: no access to anything!

Give everyone the device permissions they need to enjoy the smart home, but not too much that they cause chaos. You don’t want your kids dueling with each other’s bedroom lights nor do you need the teenager blasting their angsty tunes at 6am throughout the house.
